Regional Housing Confrence
Regional Housing Conferences “Housing Your Community” workshops have been held in every county in the region, with good attendance. In addition to a planned program, participants receive notebooks with housing resource material and contact information.
High School Financial Education Classes
A credit-counseling course was developed and piloted in Pelham High School. Topics included checking & savings accounts, budgeting & spending plans, credit cards, credit reports and the importance of maintaining good credit standing. Students were given pre- and post- tests and a notebook containing information on credit education. This class was developed to be replicated and has been repeated at five (5) high schools in Region 10 serving over 200 students.
On-site Housing Fairs are a great way the Task Force gets to reach out to communities in need. Fairs have been held in Albany, Camilla, Blakely, Thomasville and Pelham. Plans are in the works to have more in the region if funding permits.
Task Force Members have the chance through out the year to visit housing programs in full effect and learn about the efforts being made for residents living in sub-standard housing.
Home Buyer Education
First-time homebuyer education seminars have been held in: Thomasville, Moultrie, Smithville, Camilla, Newton, Pelham, Sumner and at various churches and chambers in the Region. More are being planned.
The Regional Commission takes pride in working with historic properties in Region 10 to restore structures to proper historic codes to stand as historically significant strongholds in their communities.
