Regional Housing Confrence
Regional housing conferences called “Housing Your Community” have been held in every county in the region, and have been well attended. Participants receive housing resource material and contact information.
High School Financial Education Classes
A credit-counseling course was developed and piloted at the Pelham High School. Topics included checking & savings accounts, budgeting & spending plans, credit cards, credit reports and the importance of maintaining good credit. Students were given a notebook containing information on credit education and were tested on their new knowledge. This class has been repeated at five high schools serving over 200 students.
On-site housing fairs are a great way the task force reaches out to communities in need. Fairs have been held in Albany, Camilla, Blakely, Thomasville and Pelham. If funding permits, additional fairs will be held.
Task force members have the chance through out the year to visit housing programs to learn about the efforts to assist residents living in sub-standard housing.
Home Buyer Education
First-time homebuyer education seminars have been held in Thomasville, Moultrie, Smithville, Camilla, Newton, Pelham, Sumner and at various churches and chambers in the region, and additional seminars are being planned.
The Regional Commission takes pride in working with historic property owners to restore structures that stand as historically significant assets in their communities.
